An epilator is an electrical device which uses a mechanical component to grasp multiple
hairs at the same time and pull them out of the hair follicle. How this works is pretty much the same as waxing, only that the epilators use a mechanical device
to pull out the hair.
Epilation, same as waxing, can be a painful hair removal
procedure for some people, because it involves pulling the hair out of the root and multiple hairs at once. Epilation is very painful especially the first time an area is treated, or after a long period of time an area has not been epilated. This is because of the higher number of hairs to be pulled out.
That is why the suggested approach is to have the area waxed first, and then use the epilators for the re-grown hairs. Because the hair grows in phases, there will be a reduced number of hairs to be pulled out with regular epilation using an
epilator.
A backdraw of epilators is that sometimes the hair gets snapped off instead of being pulled out, and this cases the skin to look like after shaving, and the snapped hairs to re-grow faster. However, the hair re-growth after epilation using epilators
is less than after waxing, and the hairs are more sparsely spread, making regular epilation less painful. Also, the number of snapped hairs reduces with each regular epilation using electrical epilators.
Epilators come in two different types, based on the way they function: epilators with rotating disc type, and tweezer type. Also, there are now numerous brands of epilators available, in stores and also online.
